Pupils at The Laurels learn how to develop their spirit of service, leadership and team building skills by successfully collaborating with others for the greater good of all.
Pupils take part in a service project as part of our Character Education programme with the Baytree Centre. The Baytree Centre is a social inclusion project in Brixton which provides integrated educational and training programmes for women and girls from inner city families. Pupils lead a peer mentorship project sharing their experience of change and transition from Primary to Secondary School with Year 6 pupils at the project. Pupils lead four sessions on issues such as making friends, study skills and organisational skills. The Baytree Centre issues an accreditation for having completed this leadership course.

Pupils at the Laurels also have the opportunity to work with younger children from local schools through hosting Maths Competitions and Spelling Bee Competitions. The sharing of these experiences benefits both the younger pupils and Laurels pupils gain a great inspiration from mentoring and volunteering for these projects.
The Laurels School has a House System in place and encourages pupils to take on responsibilites and leadership roles. Each form has a representative council which can action and put forward proposals and initiatives which benefit the school and wider community. These can range from setting up a new club or reviewing school provisions. Pupils take responsibility, use collaborative and planning skills and hone their presentation and public speaking experience for the greater good of all.
