On Thursday 28th and Friday 29th of March, The Laurels School annual production took place. This year we delved into the tome of Grimm Tales, adapted by Carol Ann Duffy and Tim Supple for the stage. From the familiar tales of Hansel and Gretel, Golden Goose and Snow White, the original incarnations of Red Riding Hood and Cinderella (Little Red Cap and Ashputtel, respectively) to the lesser known Clever Hans and The Magic Table, Gold Donkey and The Cudgel-in-the-Sack.
In a truly ensemble piece, girls from Y7 to 11 have been collaborating on an evening of storytelling for months. They called upon all the “tools” an actor has at their disposal; the evening included physical theatre, mime, puppetry, improvisation, music and the use of dance to tell tall tales ranging from the wickedly dark to the absurdly comic. The evening was a resounding success!
