Why choose Geography?

There has never been a better or more important time to study A level Geography. Dealing with vital issues such as climate change, migration, environment, social issues and urban challenges, A level Geography is one of the most relevant subjects you could choose to study. At A level you study human, physical and environmental geography but you also look more closely at the links between them and how they affect one another. This subject lends itself to all rounders who have a keen interest in the world and its future.


What study skills do you need?


  • An open and enquiring mind – you need to know what is going on in the world around you and have a desire to understand the reasons for and consequences of events.
  • The ability to be able to make links between geographical topics – synoptic links – and other subjects and your own world knowledge.
  • Fieldwork skills – you will collect your own data for the NEA project which is worth 20% of your total grade.


What are the aims of the course?


To inspire enthusiasm for and an understanding of the great challenges facing our world today and some of the proposal national and international solutions.


To make links between physical and human geographical topics and be able to suggest causes, effects and consequences of global issues.
