Independent Education with a Catholic Ethos for Girls 11-18

WELCOME

Linda Sanders
Headmistress

Welcome to The Laurels School, an independent school with a Catholic ethos for girls aged 11-18.

At The Laurels, our aim is for your daughter to achieve academic excellence and to forge a compass for life.

We do this through:

–     A culture of excellence.

“Every teacher wanted my daughter to fulfil her potential academically and invested the time to support her, resulting in excellent GCSE results. Her A level education has been outstanding, and resulted in an offer from the top university in the country for her chosen subject.” Laurels Parent

–     An environment promoting a lifelong passion for learning.

“I am extremely proud of the young woman my daughter has become, and as she starts the next chapter of her life at university, I know that no school could have prepared her better, or with more determination, humour and understanding.” Laurels Parent

–     A pedagogy of virtue enabling each student to make wise choices for herself.

“Through the character education lessons and strong ethos that continually underpins the school’s approach, we watched our daughter grow in confidence and learn the values that will stay with her for life. The pastoral system works superbly as a channel between parents and the school.” Laurels Parent

–     A tutorial system aimed at bringing out the best in each person.

“My daughter’s tutor and other teachers always responded to our concerns thoughtfully and openly, seeking to resolve our anxieties rather than defend a position. The Laurels is a small school with a huge heart, punching far above its weight in the opportunities it offers and the support it provides.” Laurels Parent

–     A strong and close relationship with parents.

“My daughter has been at The Laurels for six years, and it has been a life transforming experience for her. The school’s child-centred approach meant that from Day 1, they strove to understand her needs and celebrate her talents, working closely with us [as her parents] to support our daughter to learn and flourish.” Laurels Parent

The Laurels School rank 7th for best Independent School in the UK with a small VIth Form – Sunday Times.

School Prospectus

Qualifications are important but education is about so much more.
Our mission is to nurture and develop the individual child so they may grow to live fulfilled and happy lives. Good character and moral integrity have a positive impact on academic performance so character education underpins our academic programme.

Character

Character is what we make of ourselves and the unique Character Development programme at The Laurels School gives pupils the tools to fulfil their true potential and to become the best possible version of themselves.
The essence of character education at The Laurels lies in equipping pupils with the freedom to make the right choices for the right reasons. This ultimately leads to a sense of purpose and deep personal fulfilment. Lessons in character education help pupils to gain an understanding of their emotions and how they can learn to master them. Our programme fosters the development and study of virtues such as sincerity, hard work, order, cheerfulness, generosity and service to others.
