A level Successes at The Laurels

Congratulations to our A level students on their results published today. They are the year group who had never previously sat public exams because of the pandemic, so their success is even more notable.

Our first ever A level results were in 2019, so we’re delighted to have our first Cambridge undergraduate among this year’s cohort. Eleanor  will study Archaeology at Corpus Christi College having achieved A* in French and As in Chemistry and Latin, as well as an A* for her EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) on Tolkien.

Headmistress Mrs Linda Sanders said: ‘Well done to all of our students - I am very proud of what they have achieved. They have faced so many challenges because of the pandemic and they have come through with flying colours. I have no doubt they will go on to do great things, as our Laurels alumnae are already proving.

‘We are of course delighted to have our first Oxbridge student. We are a relatively small school so it’s significant to have reached this benchmark. Eleanor follows in a remarkable line of Laurels students who have gone on to study at top universities in the UK and overseas.’

Other students celebrating include Lucy, who has been at The Laurels since Year 7, She achieved A* in English, A* in History and an A in Chemistry, and is thrilled to be studying History at the University of Leeds this September.

Sophie was awarded an A* for English Literature and As for History and Geography and is now taking a gap year before applying to university.

Carla will study aeronautical engineering at The University of Sheffield.

Overall, our grades show a very pleasing increase in top grades compared to 2019, the last year of exams being sat, despite the national decrease in top grades in 2022.

Assistant Headteacher, Dr Sophia Daire, explained: ‘We credit our results to the excellent teaching of our staff, the girls’ hard work and the success of our personal tutoring system is vital in ensuring that girls are given every opportunity to flourish.’
