Everyone has something that stirs their passion. Something that sparks an interest- some find theirs in numbers, others in athletics; perhaps one may find a love for science, or a penchant for design. At Oakwood we aim to encourage a love, passion, and fulfilment when engaging with the English language and its literature.

It is their love of literature that has stimulated the children of Oakwood to read and write creatively for pleasure, manipulating the reader’s emotions by their expression of thoughts, and by their ability to encourage the expansion of our imaginations and understanding. The intricacies of the language itself and a writer’s ability to create powerful emotions in an individual stirs up an excitement with the knowledge that the words of one can influence a thousand.

Fostering a love of reading for enjoyment and writing for pleasure allows children the confidence to express themselves. Daily English lessons, library visits, reading and comprehension sessions, inspiring topic work, grammar and spelling sessions and guided reading and writing allow for the children at Oakwood to reach their full capacity and realise their true potential.

Experiential learning and enrichment days also make up part of the English curriculum delivered. Be it through class assemblies, trips, author visits, poetry recitals, storytelling sessions or school productions, the children of Oakwood are given the opportunity to speak and perform in front of an audience. At Oakwood the children aspire to inspire.
